How can two tales steeped in myth and the abstract illuminate the times in which we find ourselves living today? Both harrowing adventures (one set in the harsh and haunted West at the turn of the 20th century and the other spanning the breadth of the globe in present day), these accomplished novels feature protagonists who find themselves up against unstoppable forces, both real and imagined. Though their journeys may be lonely, it is only through chance encounters that they are able to navigate the borders of the shifting worlds they inhabit.
